1 - Copper Disc, bare, sanded
My copper comes as sheets that are three feet by either eight or ten feet.
The sheets are cut to size and then fabricated by bending or welding as needed.
Then the copper is sanded and cleaned to remove contaminates and finger prints.
This disc shows the natural copper color before any patina process has been
performed on it. Some people may prefer this as a portion of their design.
It must be protected if you want it to stay like this, as moisture in the air
and finger prints will cause oxidation and coloration. Just look at the pennies
in your pocket for examples of natural patination, also the statue of liberty
would be an example.

This is the same disc as #1 above, but as seen under different lighting
conditions.

This is the same disc after going through a cold patina process.

4 - Copper in Patina Process - A
The patina process brings out some beautiful colors while the chemical
etching is taking place. If you could freeze it at this point, you would
have some great blue and green colors, but once you wash off the chemicals,
you get the browns and golds shown below.

These copper pieces are going to be used for the storm doors shown on
the door page. The process is wet; you can see how the water carrier
makes swirls and patterns.

6 - Copper in Patina Process - C
The frames are all going through the patination process at the same time
to ensure that they match each other. If trying to match a previous gradient,
there is likely going to be a difference in the outcome.

7 - Copper Patina - A
There are lots of colors and shades that can be achieved with copper. Here
are just a few examples. The recipes are not real precise and repeatable as
they are affected by ambient temperature, humidity, chemical concentration,
and purity of the metal. Enjoy the variety and plan on personality.

8 - Copper Patina - B
I do like all of the colors derived from the same metal and just a few
chemicals. I have a book with 220 patina and coloration recipes, of
which I haven't even approached the limits.

9 - Copper Patina - C
I guess that I need to come up with fancy names for these, I just don't
know why. If you like it, call it by it's number or letter.

19 - Copper Patina - M
This piece of copper has been abused with a ball peen hammer, I mean it has
been pounded or distressed, then it was darkened with chemicals then sanded
to produce bright highlights. It tends to warp and contort the sheet, so
maintaining flatness should not be expected beyond measure. But it does build
strong muscles and looks great.

22 - Buffed Copper
This is an icon that I found, it shows buffed copper color.

|

|
23 - Bumped Copper
Another icon, but this is of pre-bumped copper stock. I have made a
few projects of it, it is called Rigidized copper. It works great for some
things, but many times the smooth flat copper is a preferred choice.

This is a light patina that has some real pretty glows in the right
lighting.

25 - Deep Patina
A deep and dark patina with burly coloring.
